W-League: Reds down Victory in final game of the season

The round 14 clash between Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory marked the record breaking, 66th appearance for Victory star Gulcan Koca.

It was a tough night for Victory which concluded with a 2-1 defeat to rivals Adelaide United.

The hosts opened the scoring after 17 minutes, through a nice finish by Adelaide United player Makenzy Doniak.

Chances came at both ends of the park, but just before the halftime break, Victory’s young star, Kyra Cooney-Cross levelled the score after a scramble in the box. This brought the teams even at the break.

Adelaide United came out firing with a Jenna McCormick goal in the 57th minute.

Victory had a few chances to equalise, but couldn’t manage to put the ball in the back of the net.

The match finished 2-1 to Adelaide United.

This concludes the Melbourne Victory W-League campaign for season 2017/18. The girls finished 7th on the ladder, ahead of Western Sydney and Adelaide United. Victory finished with 3 wins, the most notable of which coming against rivals Melbourne City.
